Day 4: Please Sir, I want some more!

oliver-twist-007In the movie “Oliver”, there is the famous moment when the young Oliver does the unthinkable and walks up to the master in the house and asks for more soup! The next words out of the mouths of all the adults are “what?”, “what?”,”what?” (I find it interesting that there are ‘three’ responding authority figures in the scene.) Anyone watching the movie would have to have a heart of stone to side with the ‘adults’ questioning the young boys request. The scene compels the viewer to a heart of compassion for Oliver.  Even though it is a movie, you feel like jumping into the screen and quickly giving him another bowl of soup.

Sadly, this is exactly how many people view God and what they think He will do if they come to him and ask for something. There is a horrible rumour being spread about my heavenly Father. It is a rumour that completely distorts the truth about the heart He really does have for His creation. The rumour is that He is ‘mad’ and will ‘vent His wrath on us.” It is a rumour that He has a bee in His bonnet and you better have your ducks in a row before you approach him …..or else.

Today, I want to remind you that the rumour is not true, your Father is not against your, he is for you. Your Father loves you and fully accepts you. Your Father is delighted in you and can’t get enough of you. So the next time you ‘feel like’ you have to cower to ask Him for anything, realize that He is eagerly awaiting conversation with you! There is nothing between you and Him that prevents Him from hearing you today!!

Are you Hungry? He will meet your nourishment. Are you Thirsty? He will give you water so that you will never thirst again. If you have children, would you stomp around all mad at the simple request of ‘I need new socks’, or “can I have a snack’, or ‘help, I cut my finger’. Would you reject your child and force them to repent of all sin, and see an honest attempt at changes in behaviour before you even consider meeting your child’s request? Of course not, you would have to be a stone cold calloused individual to respond like that.
Please Sir, I want more? The Trinity, (Father, Son, & Holy Spirit) Will respond with a resounding “YES!”, “YES!”, “YES!”. If you have a hard time with this, then let the Christ who lives in you begin to change your mind about how you see the Father. Listen for his voice of truth today, the voice that corrects bad belief and gives you right belief.
Questions for the Day
1. How have you viewed your Heavenly Father? (what is your perception of His character?)
2. Have you ever seen God the Father as ‘the bad cop” and Jesus the ‘good cop”?
3. What do you wish God was like, is there something about Him you don’t trust?
4. Will you open yourself up to be renewed in your mind about who God really is?
5. If so, stay on this journey, help and hope is here!
Verses for the Day

Matthew 11 (The Message) 10-13 “Don’t bargain with God. Be direct. Ask for what you need. This is not a cat-and-mouse, hide-and-seek game we’re in. If your little boy asks for a serving of fish, do you scare him with a live snake on his plate? If your little girl asks for an egg, do you trick her with a spider? As bad as you are, you wouldn’t think of such a thing—you’re at least decent to your own children. And don’t you think the Father who conceived you in love will give the Holy Spirit when you ask him?”

2 Corinthians 1 (The Message) 20-22 Whatever God has promised gets stamped with the Yes of Jesus. In him, this is what we preach and pray, the great Amen, God’s Yes and our Yes together, gloriously evident. God affirms us, making us a sure thing in Christ, putting his Yes within us. By his Spirit he has stamped us with his eternal pledge—a sure beginning of what he is destined to complete.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, search me, search really deep. Is there a perception of you that I’ve got all wrong? Will you be so careful and gentle with me and show me who you really are? I have a ‘want’ deep within me to believe you really are good! So, Please, I want some more!

  2. blind spots are being seen as Dad takes me deeper into what does it mean to be one as the Father and Son & that Christ prayed to Dad for me before his glorification that I / We all would be one…in them…it is a question that is making me face Christ in me in all areas of my life right now…

For me I recognize the journey! These scriptures stand out! Romans 15:13, 12:3 & 1:16&17. (NKJV)

There WAS a time when I thought I had no need for God. Do I want to change my mind?
I HAD a measure of faith!

There WAS a time when I believed God was separated and distant from me.
There WAS a time when I cowered under the wrath of god. Do I want to change my mind?
I HAD a measure of faith!

There WAS a time when my life was exchanged as a Christian, I was selected and had special status over others, especially pagans. Do I want to change my mind?
I HAD a measure of faith!

I am NOW on a personal journey of discovery and awareness of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit that has revealed that I WAS always filled. it is His belief, His faith, He walks this road as me from faith to faith. Do I want to change my mind?
I HAVE a measure of faith!

  4. A few weeks ago I was thinking about this very topic. I was listening to baxter kruger the shack revisited and he quotes his friend a quote that said something like ‘thank you Holy Spirit I will have more please’ which set me off on this very thought about the story of Oliver twist and the different characters in the story and how people can see god to be like that. It’s like a journey to discover our real identity and end up in the loving embrace of our Father.
