Day 37: The Love Of Christ Is In All Things

7f9f9c0c8af94752c4d19a4bb7054ed6Ever since I was a kid, I was told that Jesus loves me because the Bible tells me so.  Isn’t that nice?   Where does it actually say that?  Then I heard He loves everybody, which really wasn’t true according to my tradition because we clearly had categories of people God did NOT love.  (Especially if you were a ‘really’ bad person).  I was confused.  Perhaps God just “kind of” loves everybody with the same ‘love covering’ and then He picks out His favourites.  I wasn’t sure.

So, I decided to find out what the Bible actually says about God and His love for humanity.  What I discovered has blown my mind.  Perhaps now is a good time to set aside your ‘childhood’ teachings on what God’s love is and revisit the subject with a new lens.  I am sure that you will find that some things you were taught are actually true, but other things have been tainted with a cultural bias.

Read very slowly and carefully, read what is says, not what it does not say:

Romans 8:31-38

31 What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? 32 Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? 33 Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. 34 Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.  35 Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? 36 (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) 37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.  38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

 Did you notice:

  • God is FOR us vs 31
  • God does not accuse us vs33
  • God does not condemn us vs 34
  • Right standing has been given to you vs 33
  • What type of victory do we have?  Overwhelming!  vs37
  • What can separate us from God’s love…NOTHING
  • Not even the powers of Hell
  • Where is that love revealed?  (In Christ)

If you thought that was an awesome text, wait till you read THIS ONE:

Romans 5:5-11

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us 5 Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. 2 Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.  3 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. 4 And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. 5 And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.  6 When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. 7 Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. 8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. 9 And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. 10 For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. 11 So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.

Did you notice:

  • when did God show his love for us?  vs5
  • you ‘have been’ made right
  • we have peace with God
  • God dearly loves us
  • it was when we were utterly helpless that he made things right
  • it was while we were still sinners….HE LOVED US!

The fact is, God love us, He loves EVERYONE and there is NOTHING EVER that can separate us from His Love.  Just because people do not believe in God or in His love, does not mean they are ‘absent’ from it.  Remember, Christ holds ALL THINGS together, His light shines IN AND THROUGH darkness.  There is no such thing as separation from His love. Ponder that today!  (Tomorrow we will look at how God ‘is’ Love)

John 3:16-17 The Mirror Translation:

The entire cosmos is the object of God’s affection! And he is not about to abandon his creation – the gift of his son is for humanity to realize their origin in him who mirrors their authentic birth – begotten not of flesh but of the Father! In this persuasion the life of the ages echoes within the individual and announces that the days of regret and sense of lost-ness are over!  God has no intention to condemn anyone – he sent his son, not to be the Judge but the Savior of the world.

  1. Good word Mike!!

I’m not usually leaving long thoughts… And this isn’t as much as I could say, but here goes… For anyone, and everyone.

Did you know that God has never been your enemy? He proved this by sending Jesus. The problem has always been in our thinking

Col 1:21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in YOUR MIND by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled

Jhn 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that. whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Jhn 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved..

When Jesus died for you, He didn’t see you as his enemy… He thought of you/us, as friends

    John 15:13
    King James Version (KJV)
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends….

    Eph 2-7
4 But God—so rich is He in His mercy! Because of and in order to satisfy the great and wonderful and intense love with which He loved us,

5 Even when we were dead (slain) by [our own] shortcomings and trespasses, He made us alive together in fellowship and in union with Christ; [He gave us the very life of Christ Himself, the same new life with which He quickened Him, for] it is by grace (His favor and mercy which you did not deserve) that you are saved ([a]delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation).

6 And He raised us up together with Him and made us sit down together [giving us [joint seating with Him] in the heavenly sphere [by virtue of our being] in Christ Jesus (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

7 He did this that He might clearly demonstrate through the ages to come the immeasurable (limitless, surpassing) riches of His free grace (His unmerited favor) [His] kindness and goodness of heart toward us in Christ Jesus.
